It is a Greek island in the Dodecanese in the Aegean Sea the one that separates the Gulf of Kos. It measures 40 km for 8 km, and is just 4 km off the coast of Bodrum in Turkey.

The shores of Kos Island are washed by the Karpathian sea. Its coastline is 112 km long, and covered by pristine beaches.

The city has a XIV century fortress at the entrance to its port, built in 1315 by the Knights of St. John of Rhodes.

  • Day 3: Knidos - Symi (25 NM)

Knidos is another Hellenistic city though it is Turkish. Near the port there is a staircase that ascends to the temple of Aphrodite.

Knidos was an ancient Greek city in Anatolia, it is located on the tip of the Datca peninsula, which forms the southern Gulf of Gokova.

Many ruins are preserved and cover a large area. The walls can be seen perfectly and also part of the two ports. It also keeps two theatres and the remains of a large building, probably a temple. At two km from the ruins to the east there were found many tombs, some of which are large buildings.

In Knidos there was a very famous temple dedicated to Aphrodite, whose image (Aphrodite Cnidia) was made by the Greek sculptor Praxiteles. Another sculpture in this city was also famous: the Demeter of Cnidus made by Leochares, while nearby, facing the sea, on the Triopion promontory the temple was dedicated to the sun god and mythical founder Triops.

Due to the quality of light, the island has become a favorite of painters and photographers. The island has no airport and can only be visited by boat. Apart from its many historical sites, it is surrounded by numerous small islands and islets, and it is popular for its sunny beaches only accessible by sea.

  • Day 5: Datça - Rhodes (35 NM)

Datça is very friendly and lively port. During the day it offers a variety of shops and a good selection of restaurants and bars along the coast. The nightlife is very active.
